Tip #2001-2: Collect tick data on more than one field
Is it possible to collect both Bid
and Ask data for a currency into a worksheet without having
to set up two separate Reuters Tools data series?
The Data Series tool lets you create a time-series database by retrieving
and saving a snapshot of the real-time data. The Data Series
tool does not limit you to one field of data. You can enter
several fields of real-time data or you can even enter a field
which performs a calculation on the data. For example you can
calculate the spread between the Bid and the Ask and include
it in the data series.
Collecting tick data for more than one field is a two step process:
- Use the Quote tool to bring the real-time data for the fields
you want. You need to create the quotes in adjoining cells
in the same row.
- Use the Data Series tool to create the data series. In Step 1
of the wizard, click in the Data Range text box and select
the cells that contain the real time data. Go through the
remaining steps of the wizard and you're done.
In the downloadable worksheet, we entered the real-time formula
for the Bid in cell C4 and the real-time formula for the Ask
in cell D4. We then used the Data Series tool to create a data
series that collects tick data on both the Bid and the Ask.
If either the Bid or Ask changed, a snapshot of the real-time
data was added to the database. Show
