Tip #2001-1: Retrieve Real Time and Historical data in one step
There are many times when you need to combine today's price for a
financial instrument with its historical prices - for example,
calculating volatility or doing performance analysis both require
current prices and historical prices. To get this information
from most data vendors, you need to go through several steps
or you need to work with an accompanying graphics product. The
graphic products sacrifice ease of further calculation. It's
not easy to get the best of both worlds: both the current price
and a price history. Show me
We prepared two mini models, REAL_HIST.XLS for Reuters subscribers and
BLPREAL_HIST.XLS for Bloomberg subscribers. These mini models let you get both
real-time and historical data by simply entering the instrument code in a cell and
pressing Enter. The mini model calculates the net change for the retrieved
data and then uses the daily net change to calculate the Relative
Strength Index (RSI). All the calculations or charts which
reference the data will recalculate automatically when the new
data is retrieved. If you have Excel 97 or Excel 2000 and access to
a Reuters or Bloomberg real-time data feed, you can use these
mini models right away. You can also
modify them quite easily.
