The XLSTART directory
When Excel starts, it opens all workbook files found in the XLSTART
sub-directory. This feature is useful for automatically starting
workbooks, macro-driven applications, and add-ins. If you have
Excel loaded locally on your hard drive, you can save or move
your files to this directory. (For example C:\MSOffice\Excel\xlstart)
However, many of us work on a network and run Excel from a
network drive that we do not have the rights to change. Also,
if you save your workbooks to a networked XLSTART directory,
everyone who runs Excel will have these same workbook files
open when they start Excel. To address this problem,
all versions of Excel after Excel 5.0 offer the option of creating
an alternate start-up directory.
How do I set my own Startup directory?
