I suggest you check the Willow Tips section of our web site. Several of the Willow Tips provide an in-depth explanation of web queries.

Willow Tips 2002-8 discusses how to set up a web query using Excel XP and if you down load the mini app you have access to macro code which is used to create and update web queries.
