Here are some settings you can check to correct the problem of why your Reuters DDE Links are not updating.
When you first open the workbook, Excel displays a message indicating the workbook has links to information in another workbook and asks if you want to update the changes. If you choose No your DDE links will not be updated. If you choose Yes you will be asked to open Reuter.exe, which is the Reuters DDE server that updates the real-time links. If it is not opened, your DDE links will not update.
If PDD (Personal Data Dictionary) is your Reuters DDE server it has a setting which lets you control the way your DDE links are updated. If can be set to update immediately or, X times per minute, or can be turned off. If this update setting is not set to immediately, it would explain why your updates do not match the ones you see in Reuters Terminal.
Choose Links… from Excel’s Edit menu and review the Reuters links displayed on the list. If the update settings are set to manual then your links will not update. They should all be set to automatic.
Choose Options from Excel’s Tools menu and click on the Calculation tab. If it is set to Manual, your links will not be updated. Excel’s calculation setting needs to be set to automatic for DDE links to update.
If a dialog box is displayed, or you are in edit mode, that is you are editing the contents of a cell, then real-time updating will be halted.
