Thank you for providing the detailed steps to describe your problem.

I conducted a test using Windows XP, Excel XP SP1 with a workbook which had Reuters DDE links and Reuter Tools for XP.

I went through the exact steps that you describe and Excel did crash. I performed the test several times but was not able to duplicate your error.

I also checked Microsoft’s knowledge base but did not find any problems associated with closing workbook files with external DDE links.
